A one-day workshop on domestic violence and violence against women was held in March 2005 under the theme 'Gender Equality Beyond 2005: Building a More Secure Future' during observances of International Women's Day. The workshop was designed to share some of the challenges being faced by women who are victims of domestic violence with a view to existing laws and the significance of rehabilitating batterers. It was sponsored by the Bureau of Women's Affairs of the Ministry of Social Services and Community Development, the Domestic Violence Unit of the Royal Bahamas Police Force, the Crisis Centre and Amnesty International.
