The passage of the Crimes Legislation Amendment (Law Enforcement Integrity, Vulnerable Witness Protection and Other Measures) Act 2013 recognised the importance of providing appropriate support and assistance to victims of human trafficking, slavery and slavery-like practices. Protections available under the Vulnerable Witness Act include the ability to give evidence by closed-circuit television, video link or video recording, limit their contact with the defendant or members of the public, and have a support person with them while they give evidence.
