With a mandate to accommodate women from all over Algeria, it has a capacity for only 24 women. During the visit of the United Nations Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its causes and consequences, in 2007 , construction was ongoing to expand the shelter so that it would also be suited to accommodate women with children.
