Prevention of Gender-based Violence through and in Schools

Brief Description

A series of awareness-raising campaigns through the Ministry of Youth, on violence among young people with the support of UNESCO (2018) with the overall objective of contributing to raising awareness of youth violence: the harm and dangers of violence, building the capacity of youth leaders in the fight against violence. 

Teaching materials on "life skills" have been developed and disseminated. The main aim is to prevent gender-based violence (GBV) in the targeted primary schools. These documents were made available to teachers and pupils. They have been used to build the capacity of more than 5,053 trainers and teachers (50% of whom are women) from 685 schools in the provinces of Kinshasa and Bandundu targeted by this programme. 4,360 teachers and school headmasters (30% women) have been trained, and technical support has been provided to teaching units to introduce effective life-skills training, including the prevention of gender-based violence (GBV) in schools. Listening centres have been set up in some schools to provide life skills education for responsible sexual behaviour.
