Brief Description

Article 23 of the Constitution of the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe adopted in 1975, and amended in 2003, includes the following provisions:

The moral and physical integrity of people shall be inviolable.
No one may be subjected to torture or to treatments or punishments that are cruel, inhumane or degrading.
