Form of Violence Violence against women and girls

Brief Description

In order to sustain achievements in education, initiatives aimed at eliminating stereotypes have been implemented in school settings. For example, a training guide and a teacher’s manual on gender mainstreaming have been made available and a Gender Unit has been established within the Ministry of Education. Furthermore, capacity-building on gender issues has been provided to stakeholders in the education system at the national and local levels.

A major initiative aimed at consolidating all activities in this area was the establishment of the Framework for the Coordination of Girls’ Education Interventions (CCIEF). Under CCIEF, the Project to Support the Education of Girls (PAEF) has carried out various activities from 2011 to the present with support from technical and financial partners (Italian Development Cooperation, UNICEF, Plan International, the French Development Agency (AFD), ActionAid, and Save the Children Sweden) totalling about CFAF 2 billion for the period from 2010 to 2012.

As a result of the initiative, 520 school inspectors received training in gender issues and 480 teachers in life skills; 20,000 boys and 20,000 girls received school supplies and uniforms; and a plan to address gender-based violence in school settings was adopted.
