The Bureau of Gender Affairs, a government agency that falls into the category of civil or public servants, has been the Barbados Government's leading institution that seeks to end violence against women. This is in accordance with its mandate which is to integrate a gender perspective in all of the Government's development plans and policies to bring about gender equity and equality between men and women. The Bureau has an officer who is charged with overseeing issues of violence against women and a programme has been developed to combat this issue.
