As a result of the #Agressionnondénoncée and #MeToo movements, sexuality education was presented by a number of stakeholders as a way to prevent sexual assault and educate youth on the issue of consent. With this in mind, the Government of Quebec announced in 2017 the reintroduction of compulsory sex education classes at the elementary and secondary levels. Since the fall of 2018, these courses, which were developed in accordance with the age and development of the students and conform to the recommendations of experts including UNESCO, have been integrated into school curriculums at a rate of 5 to 15 hours per year.
