In 2018, Family Violence Leave was aincluded in the Labour Standards Act of Newfoundland and Labrador to provide up to three days of paid leave and seven days of unpaid leave for individuals experiencing family violence. The leave is available to any individual who has been employed for a continuous 30 day period with the same employer. This means women and others fleeing situations of domestic violence will not have to suffer loss of pay or employment due to violence.
