In 1997, the National Group for Prevention and Treatment of Violence in the Family was created to deal with violence against women. The group is coordinated by the Federation of Cuban Women and is made up of representatives of the Ministries of Education, Health, the Interior and Justice, the Office of the State Procurator, the Institute of Forensic Medicine, the National Sex Education Centre, the University of Havana, the Centre for Psychological and Sociological Research, the People’s Supreme Court and the Radio and Television Institute.
