The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) collected statistics between 1999 and 2004 on child abuse and domestic violence. There were 1,048 cases of child abuse that were reported to the Division of Human Services and Family Affairs. The most prevalent forms of abuse are child neglect and abandonment (34% of all reported cases), physical abuse (31%), and sexual abuse (29%). For the period 2000–2004, 2,165 cases of domestic violence were reported.
