The Act gives effect to and implements the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, especially as it relates to women and children. The Act makes provision to protect the privacy of victims, and provides for proceedings to be held in camera; it also safeguards the immigration status of victims; provides for the return of victims to their country of citizenship or lawful residence; assistance to victims who are unable to prove their national status through normal means and makes special considerations for victims who are children.
