The Miscellaneous Provisions (Marriage) Act, which came into force in October 2017, repealed the child marriage provisions under the existing four Marriage Acts. The Act further stardardised the age of marriage to 18 consistent with the age of majority and the age of sexual consent. The Act gives primacy to the constitutional principles of non-discrimination, gender equality and security of the person as well as the principle of the best interest of the child.
