Section 1088 of the One Hundred Twelth Congress of The United States of America (Transport for Female Genital Mutilation) addresses Female Genital Mutilation and Cutting (FGM/C) within the United States borders, and in 2013 Congress criminalized the knowing transportation of a girl younger than 18 years old outside of the United States for the purposes of performing FGM/C (so-called “vacation cutting”). The Department of Health and Human Services funds domestic community-based organizations in populations where girls are most at risk for FGM/C.
