The Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Act defines domestic violence as physical abuse, psychological abuse, sexual abuse or economic abuse against a woman or a child of a family by any other person of that family with whom victim is, or has been, in family relationship. It also regulates the duties and responsibilities of police officers, enforcement officers, and service providers (chapter 3); the rights of the victim and remedies (chapter 4); the disposal of application, trial, and appeal (chapter 5); and offence and punishments (chapter 6).
