In 2018, the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh (‘High Court’) issued landmark judgments on rape and sexual violence for ensuring justice and protection for rape survivors. The ruling provided a set of guidelines that the police is expected to follow with respect to reporting incidents of rape and sexual violence. This was inclusive of prohibiting the ‘Two Finger Test’ on rape survivors in determining the occurrence of rape. In April 2018, the Court provided guidelines on conducting medico-legal tests on rape victims and the responsibilities of the police in recording, and supporting victims through, complaints of rape and sexual violence.
