The 7th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Senior Officials Meeting on Transnational Crime (SOMTC) held in Lao People's Democratic Republic in June 2007 agreed to commence discussion on a possible legally-binding instrument on trafficking in persons informally known as ASEAN Convention on Trafficking in Persons (ACTiP). Additionally, at the 7th ASEAN Working Group Meeting on Trafficking in Persons in April 2012, the idea of developing a Regional Plan of Action on Trafficking in Persons was introduced to reflect the immediate and continuous commitment of ASEAN Member States in tackling the issue of Trafficking in Persons.
