The Korean government appoints investigators, within police agencies, who take full charge of sexual violence pursuant to Article 21, paragraph 2 of the「Act on the Punishment of Procuring Prostitution and Associated Acts」. Overall, there are 1,046 investigators within the 257 police offices (241 national police offices and 16 provincial police stations) as of November 2008. In particular, the investigation of woman victims of sexual violence is allocated to policewomen (there are currently 751 woman officers in total).
