The Czech Republic was one of the remaining countries of the EU yet to sign the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention). The Czech Government formally agreed to sign the Istanbul Convention at its session of February 8, 2016 and the Convention was subsequently signed on May 2, 2016. The Czech Government has also tasked the Minister of Justice to initiate legislative measures necessary for ratification of the Istanbul Convention before the end of 2018.
The Government of Czech Republic's submission for the 2016 Secretary General’s Report on the implementation of the General Assembly Resolutions on Intensification of efforts to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls, on Trafficking in women and girls, and on Intensifying global efforts for the elimination of female genital mutilations.
