There are no mandatory courses that only deal with violence against women within the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Iceland. Students attend the mandatory undergraduate course on abuse and neglect in families, which aims at helping students gain knowledge about abuse and neglect in families, historical roots, basic theories, risk factors, research methods, definitions and types, consequences for victims, and a brief overview of the legislature and the main services available. Elective courses in gender studies, where violence against women is a part of the syllabus, are also available to students.
