In August 2006, a survey on domestic violence was conducted by Ltd "Latvijas fakti." The target group was 1007 inhabitants throughout Latvia, aged 15-75, and 54% of women. 87% of the respondents responded that victims of domestic violence are usually women; 37% of the respondents have acknowledged that among their acquaintances or relatives there are women who suffer from domestic violence; 16% of the respondents responded that in some cases violence against women may be justified; 54% of the respondents named financial dependence as the main reason to stay with the violent partner and to suffer continuous violence.
