Brief Description


In accordance with the amendments to the Law on the Procedures for the Coming into Force and Application of Criminal Law (entry into force: 01.01.2018.), female genital mutilation has been recognised as serious bodily injury in Latvia and is criminally punishable. During the period from 1 August 2020 until now no criminal offences relating to female genital mutilation have been registered in the State Police of Latvia.
