Violence against women is still too often regarded as a ‘women’s problem’, while the vast majority of perpetrators are male. In 2016, the ‘White Ribbon’ campaign placed the emphasis firmly on men’s own responsibility. The campaign has been supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science since 2016 and is one of a number of measures which have successfully raised awareness of men’s involvement in violence against women, and their role in preventing it.
