In 2015–2019, the Government set aside a total of more than half a million kronor for support to local women’s shelters. The Government also supports civil society organisations which work for gender equality by means of different development grants. The non-profit women’s shelters are able to run preventive outreach work and represent knowledge, skills and experience that is valuable in developing public provision for victims of crime. Nonprofit women’s shelters are capable of providing protection and support to women who cannot or do not wish to be in contact with the social services.
