Swedish Gender Equality Agency

Brief Description

On 1 January 2018, the Government set up the Swedish Gender Equality Agency to contribute towards strategic, cohesive and sustainable governance and effective implementation of gender equality policy. The agency is to support other agencies, county councils, regions and municipalities in their efforts to achieve the goals of gender equality policy. 

The agency’s role includes: 
- encouraging the systematic, cohesive and effective implementation of gender equality policy at all levels of society, nationally, regionally as well as locally,
- supporting government agencies in their work on gender mainstreaming and in their other work to achieve the goals of gender equality policy,
- encouraging the development of initiatives to prevent men’s violence against women.
