To help raise awareness of female genital mutilation (FGM), the United Kingdom launched a communications campaign in October 2018. The campaign seeks to prevent FGM by changing attitudes among affected communities through raising awareness of the negative long-term health consequences of FGM. The campaign also raises awareness that FGM is a crime and encourages communities to report via the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children's FGM helpline.
