The Ministerial Group work programme involved Ministers responsible for 16 portfolios and aimed to reduce the devastating impact that family violence and sexual violence have on people and communities across the country. In 2017, a Multi-Agency Team (MAT) was established to co-ordinate and drive the work programme of the Ministerial Group. The MAT team was drawn from the Ministers of Justice, Social Development, Corrections, Ministry of Children Oranga Tamariki and New Zealand Police.
