The Criminal Law Amendment Act 2018 provides for more stringent penal provisions for the offences of rape including death penalty for rape of a girl below the age of 12 years. The Act also inter-alia mandates completion of investigation and trials within 2 months each. Furthermore, appeals against convictions or acquittal are to be disposed of within 6 months. It has also strengthened the relevant provisions of Indian Penal Code (IPC), Criminal Procedure Code (Cr.PC), and Evidence Act and Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
